Fritzing - From Prototype to Product
Fritzing is a new initiative that wants to bring us a step closer to do-it-yourself made wonderland, like for example Processing did some years ago for creative coding. This projects wants to shorten the development cycle between concept, protoype and realisation of electronic devices and bring people together. The focus is on Electronic Design Automation and I bet some people now cross fingers, because they had equal ideas.

Fritzing is based around the Interaction Design Lab of the University of Applied Science Potsdam near Berlin. For me it's the news of the day. Only two questions remain... What does Fritzing mean? And whey do they got the name from?

thanks a lot for posting about us!
The name "Fritzing" is actually a hommage to Processing on the one hand and Arduino on the other: Arduino is the name of a medieval king that lived in Ivrea, where the project was founded. So we figured why not use the Old Fritz, famous former emperor in Potsdam, for our project. A known lover of architecture and the arts. And the sound is nice, too..
We hope to release early alphas soon, and a more publicly accessible version at the end of the year.
So keep your fingers crossed, or better yet, help us out - we're still hiring!

Thanks Andre. I think this are useful background information for the people who like to polish their know-it-all skills related to digital culture. ^_^
I guess the Radio Fritz from Berlin has the same background in meaning. So, let's fritz... Fritzing also sounds like soldering or the like. :)
